Yes. Boys/Men Do Dance
There are few spaces in the DC area, where male dancers can train with male teachers. Under the leadership and watchful eye of our Founding Director Shawn Short, many male dancers have come from the street to the stage and beyond.
Male dancers at the Ngoma School take classes alongside their female classmates, with specialty classes in the summer and/or during special projects. Students have guest performed in local dance school Nutcracker performances and within other opportunities.

Students train with under Director Shawn Short – provided training in classical ballet, variation, choreography, and conditioning. Electives include African, hip-hop, and jazz. Selected students are invited to train in the school during the academic year.
Know an interested male dancer or is your child a potential student? Check out our Ngoma School page.

“It takes a minimum of four years to build a male dancer. But the mind and heart must be willing, disciplined, and trusting.” – Shawn Short MFA, Founding Director Ngoma/DDT
