Kareem B. Goodwin
Resident Choreographer

Kareem B. Goodwin is a Philadelphia based choreographer, educator, and arts leader whose work centers the legacy, evolution, and future of Black dance. Known for his powerful musicality, physical storytelling, and commitment to cultivating the next generation of artists, Goodwin’s work spans professional companies, universities, and community based institutions across the United States.
Goodwin currently serves as the Artistic Director of The Pointe! Dance Studio in Philadelphia, where he leads the artistic and educational vision of the organization while mentoring emerging dancers and choreographers. Through his leadership, the studio continues to serve as a vibrant training ground for young artists, providing rigorous instruction, performance opportunities, and pathways into the professional dance field.
In addition to his work in community based arts education, Goodwin is an Adjunct Professor of Jazz Dance at Drexel University’s Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, where he teaches within the university’s nationally recognized dance program. His work at Drexel reflects his commitment to bridging professional practice with higher education, guiding young artists as they refine both their technical foundation and creative voice.
As a choreographer, Goodwin has created works for professional companies, universities, and dance institutions across the country. His choreography blends modern, jazz, and contemporary movement vocabularies with an emphasis on musicality, emotional depth, and cultural storytelling. His work has been commissioned and performed by organizations including Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Eleone Dance Theatre, Atlanta Dance Connection, MOVE|NYC, West Chester University, and the State University of New York, among others.
Goodwin also serves as the Resident Choreographer for Dissonance Dance Theatre and the Ngoma Center for Dance in Washington, DC, where he contributes original works and creative collaborations that explore contemporary Black movement aesthetics and interdisciplinary storytelling. His work with the company includes contributions to the dance film MUTE: Dance Silenced by COVID which has won “Best Dance Film” at the 2021 Cannes World Film Festival, reflecting his continued exploration of movement across both stage and screen.
Beyond his choreographic commissions, Goodwin is an in demand teaching artist who has worked with institutions across the United States for intensives, residencies, workshops, and master classes. His teaching practice emphasizes curiosity, discipline, and artistic individuality, encouraging dancers to develop both technical excellence and a strong personal voice.
Goodwin’s artistic and community leadership has been recognized through support from The Bartol Foundation and The Philadelphia Foundation, organizations dedicated to advancing artists whose work demonstrates meaningful cultural and community impact.
He is also actively engaged in the national dance community through his involvement with the International Association of Blacks in Dance (IABD), the leading service organization dedicated to the preservation and advancement of Black dance worldwide. Through this network, he participates in national convenings, artistic exchanges, and mentorship initiatives that connect Black dance artists across generations.
Rooted in the belief that dance is both a cultural inheritance and a tool for transformation, Kareem B. Goodwin continues to create work, cultivate artists, and build spaces where movement becomes a catalyst for storytelling, community, and possibility.
