Empowering Black, Brown, and All Young Dancers: Registration Opens for Fall 2025 at The Ngoma School

Fall 2025 brings fresh inspiration and opportunity: registration for The Ngoma School is officially open! As of August 18th, families across the D.C. area and beyond can enroll young dancers in a program designed to empower, uplift, and transform—especially those from Black, Brown, and historically excluded communities. At Ngoma, we believe every young artist deserves a space to discover their voice, move their body, and shape their future.

Dance Education for Every Journey

At the heart of The Ngoma School is a mission that speaks directly to both heritage and innovation. We aren’t just teaching steps—we’re opening doors. As part of Ngoma Center for Dance, a 501(c)3 non-profit, the school shapes culturally-rich, inclusive programs that tap into professional training, entrepreneurial skills, and performance mastery. Dancers don’t just leave with pointed toes and polished turns—they emerge as creative changemakers, deeply connected to their roots and ready for new horizons.

Ngoma stands as the official school of Dissonance Dance Theatre, giving students unique connections to world-class mentors and role models, and exposing them to dynamic styles, techniques, and career paths. Whether your child dreams of the stage, studio, or entrepreneurship, Ngoma is committed to nurturing talent at every level.

Our Mission: Equity, Access, and Excellence

Dance has always been a universal language—but access hasn’t always been equal. That’s why The Ngoma School is explicitly grounded in a commitment to equity and representation, prioritizing students who have been excluded from traditional training spaces.

Our mission is to:

  • Cultivate equitable opportunities for Black, Brown, and all young artists.
  • Remove financial and systemic barriers to quality dance education.
  • Celebrate and preserve the rich legacy of Black dance and culture in every class.
  • Guide students toward thriving creative careers, not just performances.

Ngoma’s artists and educators are steeped in the understanding that dance changes lives. By building sustainable partnerships with local organizations and communities, we’re expanding access to professional training, mentorship, and leadership development for all.

Professional Training Meets Real-World Opportunity

Ngoma’s approach is holistic: the classroom meets the real world. Our training philosophy encourages dancers to develop as people—enriching their artistry, supporting healthy living, and emphasizing life skills that extend offstage.

Here’s what makes The Ngoma School stand out:

  • Diverse Styles & Techniques: From ballet and modern to jazz and hip-hop, our curriculum highlights the Black dance tradition while preparing students for today’s creative industries.
  • Passionate, Professional Faculty: Our instructors are working artists, role models, and mentors who understand the unique needs and strengths of each young dancer.
  • Small Class Sizes: We keep enrollment limited so every student receives personalized attention and support.
  • Performance & Leadership Opportunities: Students have access to live showcases, creative labs, and service projects, building confidence on stage and in the community.
  • Pathways to Careers: Ngoma’s programs aim to demystify creative entrepreneurship, arts administration, and business ownership, opening new doors for those historically underrepresented in the arts.

Registration, Tuition, and Accessibility

Affordability is central to the Ngoma mission. For Fall 2025, classes start at just $85—making high-quality training possible for more families. We know that financial obstacles shouldn’t decide who gets to dance, so Ngoma offers a robust Financial Assistance Program, scholarships, and flexible payment options for eligible families.

Class spots are limited and fill quickly, so early registration is encouraged! With our focus on small class sizes and personalized education, securing your child’s place now ensures access to top-notch training, mentorship, and a supportive creative community.

We celebrate every background and champion the stories, artistry, and dreams of every dancer who walks through our doors. In an environment focused on inclusion and belonging, artists are free to fail, grow, and soar—and that’s how excellence is born.

Our work goes beyond dance technique:

  • Cultural Heritage: We honor the past while innovating for the future. Our curriculum spotlights Black dance pioneers, history, and contemporary artistry.
  • Creative Leadership: Students learn how to navigate arts industries as self-advocates and change agents.
  • Healthy, Whole Students: Wellness resources, peer mentorship, and leadership development help our artists thrive both in and outside the studio.
