Our Approach

The Ngoma School provides a complete dance education for concert and commercial-focused dancers, in a nurturing environment that supports student growth both in and outside of the studio.

We undertake the broadest possible recruiting efforts to select, aid, and nurture students ages 5 to 18 who wish to learn dance education to further their station in life.  Also dance, for many, is a way to transition out of life circumstances (poverty, life struggles, and family challenges), and into new opportunities (college, professional career, possible first job). Our vision of dance excellence is anchored by our cultivation of a diverse student population (race, religion, identity), that brings their unique talents, gifts, and perspectives which we embrace. To ensure that those with limited financial resources have the same access and opportunities as any other student with potential, The Ngoma School provides $80,000 in scholarships and financial assistance annually. Resources and programming that support student wellness and health are also a critical component of our artistic success.

The high demands of dance as an art form ensures that not all students will succeed in attaining a professional career, and yet the quality of instruction at all Ngoma School training levels—whether beginner or advanced—meets an exceptional standard. Whether a student spends 2 years or 10 years in our programs, we are fully invested in creating a rich learning experience that teaches not only the fundamentals of dance but also the discipline and focus that are key to success in all of life’s endeavors.
