Through our impact at The Ngoma School, we undertake the broadest possible recruiting efforts to select, aid, and nurture students ages 5 to 18 who wish to learn dance education to further their station in life.  Also dance, for many, is a way to transition out of life circumstances (poverty, life struggles, and family challenges), and into new opportunities (college, professional career, possible first job). Our impact of dance excellence is anchored by our cultivation of a diverse student population (race, religion, identity) that brings their unique talents, gifts, and perspectives, which we embrace. To ensure that those with limited financial resources have the same access and opportunities as any other student with potential, The Ngoma School provides more than $80,000 in scholarships and financial assistance annually – reducing financial impact for families.

more than 2,000 students have trained within Ngoma School’s programming since 2014. They have come from across Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, New York, and Tennessee.

Students have learned from dance professionals from Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company, Momix, Stuttgart Ballet, Merce Cunningham Dance Company, Ohio Ballet, Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, Milwaukee Ballet, Ballet Chicago, Ballet Metropolitano de Caracas, National Tour of West Side Story, National Tour of Dolly, Washington Ballet, Dissonance Dance Theatre, El Teatro De Danza Contemporeana El Salvador, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Kankouran West African Dance Company.

Students have graduated and begun their careers at Dissonance Dance Theatre, Norwegian Cruise Ships, Broadway (Matilda, Spamalot), International Tour of Dream Girls, Fivetwodance (NYC), and Carolyn Dorfman Dance.

Furthermore, students have performed at the Atlas Performing Arts Center, Lincoln Theater, Jazz @ Lincoln Center, Publick Playhouse, Howard Community College Dance Festival, Dance Place, Joyce Theater, Alexander Kasser Theater, Bryant Park, and New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC).
